Clip: DMT - The Spirit Molecule

This is easily the most interesting documentary i've seen in 2010.

If you have a curiosity of psychedelics and their affect/role in the world, then this is a must see.

Personally, i'd heard of DMT before and became curious to learn more about it, to see whether it was something i wanted to eventually experience or not (always research a psychedelic before trying it!). So this documentary was particularly interesting for me. But whether you've heard of DMT or not, as long as you've got an open mind, totally give this doco a viewing! For this will definitely challenge your understanding of reality and attempt to open your eyes & mind (or, for some, it may tell you what you already know! ;) ). Either way, I believe this is an important documentary for people to see atleast once.

It's not a quick viewing (5 parts of 14 or so minute vids), but it's worth it. I recommend chucking youtube on full-screen and sitting back and getting comfortable...

Part 3
Part 4
Part 5

It's particularly interesting when they interview the volunteers who took DMT and told of their experiences, but my favourite quote/thought came from some writer of the name Graham Hancock:

"Our society values 'alert problem-solving' consciousness, And it de-values all other states of consciousness. Any kind of consciousness that is not related to the production or consumption of material goods is stigmatized in our society today.

Of course, we accept drunkenness. We allow people some brief respite from the material grind.

A society that subscribes to that model is a society that is going to condemn states of consciousness that have nothing to do with the alert problem-solving mentality. And if you go back to 1960s when there was a tremendous upsurge of exploration of psychedelics, I would say that the huge backlash that followed that had to do with a fear of the part of the powers that be, that if enough people went into those realms of those experiences then the very fabric of the society we have today would be picked apart, and most importantly, those in power at the top would not be in power at the top anymore."

  1. I’ve recently been researching the ancient use of psychoactive mushrooms by our ancestors which has been said to have evolved human consciousness. It kind of changes the way you see why humans are so different from all other animals. I always thought we were creative and logical because we needed to think outside of our own box to aid our own survival. We don’t have claws, can’t run that fast and we don’t have threatening colourful displays. We had to use our minds instead as our tools and there’re practically no boundaries. Mix that with psychoactive mushrooms and we had to redefine the relationships of objects (potential ‘tools’) and our environment and re associate it with meaning to make sense of it again. Further pushing our pre-existing boundaries and knowledge, questioning our environment and where we fit into our social group defined a meta-consciousness. This is what helped give our ancestors meaning, creativity, love, they knew what each person, item, animal meant for their survival, they were fully connected with nature.

Today’s society is so removed from nature, in attempt to make living “easier” and more “comfortable”, I feel like everyone needs a good trip up the ass.. so to speak ;)

  2. Hehe, cool!

I heard a theory once that the big difference between us and animals is that humans have "self awareness" and animals don't. (although i'm not an animal, and neither is any other human, so i spose that can't really be proved. It does make sense though)

But i definitely agree that psychedelics such as mushrooms have played (and will play) a role in the evolution of human consciousness.

  4. I've actually tried DMT. Ironically, the most powerful psychedelic is also the only one I've done.

I didn't end up doing a lot of it, so I just saw fractal patterns and felt pretty out of it. My friend did a lot, though, and he apparently encountered an alien who asked him questions.

I've heard that DMT is also released during sleep and upon death, and may have a role in enlightenment. Typically I shift my consciousness the manual, hard way via meditation and things like that, rather than through artificial means, but this is highly highly interesting.

    Cool stuff. :)
